The invitation

An invitation to understanding

“…know one another.”

The Qur’an describes humanity’s different peoples and tribes as an invitation to mutual understanding. Heritage Day gives us a chance to put that spirit into practice.

Qur’an 49:13 · Short excerpt, The Clear Quran

Our foundation. Our roots.

Rooted in faith.
Connected through service.

An-Nur Foundation serves uMhlanga and surrounding communities, bringing people and institutions together through excellence, compassion, and unity.

Alhamdulillāh—meaning “praise be to God”—the An-Nur Foundation is a coordinating and supporting umbrella body established to facilitate, develop, and sustain local Islamic institutions and initiatives.

Our roots lie in serving our local faith community: supporting mosques, prayer spaces, Islamic learning, and community projects. We work alongside existing management structures, helping institutions thrive together transparently and with ihsān—a commitment to excellence and doing good.

“To nurture and grow vibrant, well-managed Islamic institutions that serve the needs of our communities with excellence, compassion, and unity.”

Discover Islam

Faith expressed in everyday goodness.

At the heart of Islam is belief in one God, called Allah in Arabic. Muslims seek to live with purpose, worship God, and treat others with responsibility and compassion.

01 / HUMAN DIGNITY

Getting to know one another

Our backgrounds are different, but our humanity is shared. The Qur’an places moral character above social status or ancestry.

Read Qur’an 49:13
02 / GOODNESS IN ACTION

Justice and generosity

Islam calls people to act fairly, do good, and care for others. Faith is expressed through how we treat people as well as how we worship.

03 / A FREE CONVERSATION

Space to ask and reflect

“Let there be no compulsion in religion” is a Qur’anic teaching. You are welcome to learn and ask questions without pressure.

Qur’an 2:256 · Excerpt, The Clear Quran

These are brief introductions, not a complete account of Islamic teaching. Verse links provide the full passages and further explanation. English Qur’an excerpts use Dr. Mustafa Khattab’s translation, The Clear Quran.

Your questions are welcome

A conversation
starts with hello.

Ask about the event, the Foundation, or something you have always wondered about Islam.

What does “Assalāmu ‘alaykum” mean?

It is a greeting meaning “peace be upon you”. A friendly hello is welcome too.

What should I know when visiting?

Dress respectfully and ask the team where to leave your shoes before entering a prayer area. Please keep voices low during prayer and ask before photographing people. The team can explain the arrangements for your visit.

Can I just observe and ask questions?

Yes. You can learn at your own pace. If you are unsure about a custom or what is happening, ask a member of the team to explain.

How can I learn more after today?

Contact the Foundation with your questions or follow our social channels for community updates and talks. If you would like a further conversation about Islam, let us know.
